What data do you store, and how do I export or delete it?
I store your account, your store's content and connection, and the work I do for you — so I can run the service and answer from your real store. Download it all any time, or delete it for good.
Here's the honest overview: I store your account details, your store's content and connection, and the work I do on your behalf — so I can run the service for you and ground my answers in your real store, not a guess. It's your data, so you can download a full copy any time, or delete your account and have it wiped for good. Nothing here is locked away from you.
What I store
The data I hold falls into a few plain groups:
- Your account — your name, email, plan, and billing records.
- Your store connection — the secure link to your Shopify store so I can read your catalog and publish for you.
- Your content — the articles, collections, and tools I've written, plus the drafts and research behind them.
- Your intelligence — your rankings, AI mentions, competitor tracking, and Search Console data.
- Our chats — the conversations we've had and the notes I keep so I remember your store between them.
How I use it
I use your data for one thing: running the service you signed up for. Your store connection lets me publish content and read your catalog; your intelligence data lets me track how you're doing; our chats let me answer as if I know your store, because I do. I don't sell it, and your store's private connection details are never handed back in an export.
Exporting your data
You can take a full copy whenever you like. Go to Settings → Account → Export your data and click Download my data (JSON). I'll hand you a machine-readable file with everything I hold — articles, chat history, Search Console intelligence, billing records, and your account profile — with credentials stripped out for safety.
Deleting your account
If you want everything gone, go to Settings → Account → Delete account and click Request deletion link. I'll email you a confirmation link (good for 30 minutes) to prove it's really you — then, once you confirm, I permanently purge everything I hold and cancel your subscription. This can't be undone.
One thing worth knowing: articles and pages I've already published live on your Shopify store, so they're yours and stay there — see what happens to your content if you cancel. If you'd rather I handle a deletion for you, email matt@runoctopus.com and we'll take care of it.
