AI Visibility
Eight guides on whether AI assistants name your business, and what decides it. Written to be read in any order.
AI visibility is whether an assistant says your name when somebody asks it what to buy. Not where you rank. Whether you are one of the three or four businesses named in a short answer, or absent from it, which from the shopper's side is the same as not existing.
It behaves differently from search in three ways that matter. There is no partial credit, because an answer names a handful of sources and stops. There is usually no click, so nothing about it reaches your analytics and a business can be recommended repeatedly without knowing. And it runs on three different clocks, because Perplexity retrieves live while ChatGPT shifts over months and AI Overviews move with Google rankings.
What it shares with search is larger than what separates it. Assistants answer current questions by running a search and reading the results, so whatever decides which pages rank also decides which pages an assistant ever sees. That single mechanical fact reorganises most of the advice written on this subject: being retrieved is an authority problem and slow, being quoted once retrieved is a writing problem and fast, and it is worth knowing which one is actually stopping you before spending a quarter on the other.
The guides below cover both halves, plus how to measure something that leaves no trail. They are written to be read in any order. The same subject is sold under a second set of names, and the vocabulary side of it sits in the LLM SEO guides.
