How do I check whether AI mentions my brand?

The simplest check is to ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI the questions your customers would ask, and note whether you're named and whether your site is cited — done in a private session, on a schedule, so you can spot the trend. Doing that by hand is a chore, which is why AI Citation Radar does it for you whenever you run a check.

The most reliable way to check whether AI mentions your brand is refreshingly low-tech: ask the AI the questions your customers would ask, and see if you come up. Open ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI, type the real "what's the best X for Y" questions a shopper in your category would ask, and note two things — whether your brand is named in the answer, and whether your site shows up as a cited source. Do it in a private or incognito session so past activity doesn't skew the result.

What to look for

  • Direct mentions — is your brand named, and how early? AI answers tend to give more weight to what's mentioned first, so position matters, not just presence.
  • Citations — scroll to the sources. Perplexity and Google's AI cite their sources, so your content can be feeding an answer even when your brand name isn't in the visible text.
  • Who's there instead — if competitors keep coming up and you don't, that's the gap to close (and usually a sign their product data is clearer or better corroborated, not that they're "better" — see how AI picks products).

Make it a trend, not a snapshot

One check is a data point; the value is in the trend. Run the same prompts on the same day each week and jot the results down — brand mentioned yes/no, position, cited as a source, competitors named. After a few weeks you have a baseline; after a couple of months you can see whether your visibility is actually climbing. You can also check your analytics for referral traffic from perplexity.ai and other AI sources — each click on a citation shows up there.

The easier way — I do this for you

Running that whole routine by hand is a genuine chore, and it's easy to let slip. So I do it for you: that's AI Citation Radar. Run a check and I ask the big assistants — ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini — the buying questions in your category, watch whether your store comes up, and roll it into one AI Visibility Score you can track over time. It's the manual method above, done the same way every time and turned into a number you can actually watch move — and Competitors shows you where rivals are getting picked over you, so you know exactly where to push.
