What is AI Citation Radar?

AI Citation Radar is me keeping watch over the big AI assistants — ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini — to see whether they mention your store when someone asks them for a recommendation. More and more people ask AI for shopping advice now, right alongside searching Google, and Radar tells you whether you're showing up there.

Here's why that's worth watching: you can't improve what you can't see. Radar turns "are we coming up in AI answers?" from a guess into something you can track over time and do something about.

The way Radar checks

I ask the AI assistants the kinds of questions your customers would ask — the "what's the best X for Y" questions that lead to a purchase — and I watch whether your store comes up in the answers. I do this on a regular schedule, so you see the picture change as your visibility grows.

Your AI Visibility Score

Radar sums all of that up into one simple number from 0 to 100: your AI Visibility Score. Think of it like a credit score for AI visibility — the higher it climbs, the more often the assistants are recommending you. There's a whole article on it in your AI Visibility Score.

AI mentions work alongside Google

This is an "as well as," never an "instead of." People search Google and ask AI, so being recommended by an assistant reaches buyers at a moment when they're actively asking what to buy — and a recommendation from an AI they trust carries real weight. It's another doorway to your store, added on top of your search traffic.

Lifting a low score

If your score is lower than you'd like, that's normal early on, and there's a clear path up. The fixes live in this same chapter: make your store easy to read and trust (Discoverability), make sure AI is allowed to reach you (AI Access), and help machines understand your pages (Schema Audit). Together they raise how often AI can find and recommend you.
